With 6 months down and six months to go, the auto industry breathed a sigh of relief as their June numbers held strong. Low interest rates and bettering economic conditions have been attributed to the increase. The auto industry as a whole gained 1.2% to over 1.4 million vehicles in June of 2014. The annual total of cars sold in the industry is now 16.98 million units, its best start in 8 years.
Chrysler led the way with 9% growth over last year’s totals with 171,086 vehicles sold. Nissan finished in second place with a 5% increase over a year ago and sold 109,643 vehicles. Toyota claimed the third spot with a 3% gain over June 2013 with 201,714 vehicles sold. General Motors was next with a slim 1% increase amid recall madness. GM sold 267,461 vehicles in June 2014. Honda and Ford both had 6% reductions in sales over June 2013 with 129,023 and 221,396 vehicles sold respectively.
