The fifth weekend in May gave auto dealerships the sales push they needed to improve on a slow start to 2014. General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai and Audi all reported increased sales in May. Jeep set a record for their best sales month in the history of the company, leading General motors to a 17 percent monthly increase.
Even during a massive recall, General Motors gained 13 percent over last year’s total. It was GM’s best May sales month in seven years and best overall since August of 2008. Ford posted a three percent increase over May 2013 with 174,889 vehicles sold. The Fusion and Escape enjoyed their best sales months ever and drove the best May totals since May 2004.
Toyota boasted a 12.6 percent sales increase, riding the popularity and sales strength of the Camry. Nissan also gained a double-digit increase, setting a record for the highest May U.S. sales month. Audi moved 25 percent more vehicles in May and Hyundai also reached record May sales.
